This is agricultural insect netting over broccoli plants.

I’m always sad when the growing season comes to a close. But boy, did I learn a lot this year! In my newest video, I share my top garden takeaways.

It’s so important to take the time to reflect on how the garden season went. This includes successes and failures, although I prefer to call the latter “learning experiences!” That’s because we can always learn how to do something better.

For the most part, the 2024 garden season was a roaring success. If you’ve been watching my videos this season, you know I complained a lot about the weather. There were so many temperature extremes, which was hard on both my plants AND this gardener. Every time I thought we’d finally turned the corner, we’d get more frosts. It was so frustrating.

The only crops that really struggled were the zucchinis and pumpkins. That’s because I planted them in beds that get less sunshine and where they competing with tree roots for moisture. I should have known better!

Here’s which garden takeaways you’ll learn about in this video:

  • Succession planting is a great way to increase your yields within the same amount of space!
  • An unexpected problem with the agricultural insect netting on our raised bed covers. I figured you should be aware of this.
  • Seed-starting tips.
  • The importance of choosing a sunny spot for your garden and staying away from trees!
  • Why garden journals are so incredibly helpful.
