Sharp-shinned Hawk video

sharp-shinned hawk

As you know, I am passionate about watching birds. They are so fascinating and such an important part of the environment. During a recent visit from a Sharp-shinned hawk, I was tickled to be able to capture the video below.

While it’s true that hawks and other raptors capture the little birds that we all love so much, it’s all part of the balance in nature.

During the video, you will hear some geese honking. They were flying overhead and you’ll notice this hawk looking up at them and, at one point, even looking a little concerned one might come down to get it! (not that that would happen but Sharp-shinned hawks are the smallest of the Accipiters, so I’d imagine they’re not crazy about anything larger than they are!)

In our Spokane, Wash. garden, we see a wonderful range of hawks, also referred to as raptors. These include Cooper’s hawks, Northern Goshawks, red-tailed hawks and Northern harriers. We also are privileged to see falcons such as Sparrow hawks and merlins. That’s pretty cool!
