Video: Early Spring Garden Tasks

It’s time for my next video! And this one is about several spring garden tasks that have been on my list. After a long winter, it’s such a delight to do some actual gardening, for a change.
You’ll recall I started some early lettuce seeds indoors a few weeks ago. Well, I finally got to transplant them out into our garden. Since we’re still having occasional frosts, I covered them with my row cloches to protect them. I can’t wait to start eating fresh salads again!
You’re probably noticing that I’ve been changing the style of my videos a little bit. I felt it would be more interesting and helpful if I demonstrate how I take care of garden projects. I hope this is helpful and intend to do more of this.
Here’s what you’ll find in this week’s spring garden tasks video:
- Planting the ‘Bauer’ lettuce seedlings
- An update on our garlic bed, which we planted last fall
- I share two beautiful varieties of rock garden iris (Iris reticulata)
- You’ll see how I plant our “gutter peas.” If you’re not familiar with the method, it’s a great way to grow peas! If you’d like to see the entire process (beyond planting the seeds), watch this video of mine.
- I’ll also show you how 3 of my winter-sown crops are doing and explain how I transplant them.
- It’s time to set up our “famous” pole bean arbor!
- You’ll see our raspberry and blackberry beds.
- Last but not least, I explain why I’m waiting on cleaning up the fallen leaves.
As you can see, there were a lot of early spring garden tasks to address! And there are plenty more to come… If you’re curious about the photo below, those are arugula seedlings that I started with the winter-sowing method.
