Video: Seed Catalog Tips
Even though the garden season is over, we can still dream and plan for next year. How? By perusing the seed catalog offerings and deciding what to grow. That’s the topic of this week’s video.
I share all sorts of tips so you can make good choices. Those tips are especially geared toward new gardeners because I want you to have a successful garden. I think some of the information you’ll find in catalogs can be a bit confusing.
Here are the topics I cover:
- What does “Non-GMO” or “Safe Seed Pledge” mean? You’ll probably see one or the other in the seed catalogs.
- Are home gardeners able to purchase genetically-modified seeds? There’s been a change in that!
- Days to maturity: why is that important
- Do you want to plant organic seeds or non-organic seeds?
- What are pelleted seeds and how might this (potentially) impact your seed-starting?
- Look for free shipping options!
- I put in a plea for you to patronize your LOCAL garden centers first. This is so important.
- I share my seed-ordering form to help me consolidate my orders and save on shipping.
Once I get through those items (and don’t worry, I’m speedy!), I highlight some seed catalogs. There are many seed sources out there and I realize this is the tip of the iceberg. But the catalogs I mention are the ones I’ve received so far from companies I believe in.
