Video: How to Store Carrots and Cooking with Carrots
Did you watch my beet video last week? That was the first crop I featured in my new video series. This week’s video focuses on how to store carrots so they’ll last a long time for you. Then I discuss a lot of wonderful ways of cooking carrots. This includes using them in baked goods and savory dishes.
I think you’ll enjoy the section on using lacto-fermentation methods for carrot slices. It’s really easy to do and boy, are they tasty!
In the video, I mentioned that I recently added a Food Preservation section to my new Amazon Store. In it, I’ve got all sorts of canning and preserving supplies. One of the items is the MasonTops Mason Jar Fermentation Kit. Bill started delving into lacto-fermentation last year and purchased that kit. It works great! (I am an Amazon Associate. I receive a commission on sales from my Amazon Store but that won’t impact the price you pay.)
After you watch my carrot video, be sure to check out the video’s description. That’s because I’ve included a lot of helpful links. One of the best ones is a link to the Caramelized Carrot Risotto recipe from Sunset Magazine. We make it a few times each year and it’s truly our favorite!
Another link is to my Preserving the Harvest section on this website. It covers all sorts of ways to use the crops you grew in your garden.
I hope you enjoyed learning how we store carrots because it’s super easy. Someone asked me how cold our garage gets. It is insulated but not heated, so it can get down to freezing. Fortunately, the straw in the carrots bins helps keep them from freezing.
