Video: Organic Insect Control Pt. 3

organic insect control, Japanese beetles

It’s time for the 3rd and final video in my series about organic insect control. And I saved the worst insect pests for last!

In the video, I focus on cucumber beetles, Japanese beetles, squash bugs and squash vine borers. You’ll see what their different life stages look like, which crops they are attracted to, what their damage looks like, and how to control them organically.

Why is organic insect control important? Well, you certainly wouldn’t want to spray chemicals on the crops you plant to eat, right? In addition, chemical pesticides are non-selective. That means that in addition to killing the targeted insect, they kill beneficial insects, too.

Pesticides throw off the balance in your garden’s environment. To be honest, I’d prefer not to use organic products, if I don’t have to. Why? Well, if you can create a barrier or use another method to keep them away, that is even better!

If you’re wondering what’s in the photo to the above left, those are squash bug eggs. They’re typically laid on the undersides of squash or pumpkin plants, between the large veins. The top photo shows Japanese beetles. While they’re quite pretty, they sure cause a lot of damage.

I hope you’ve been enjoying this series and have picked up some tips that you weren’t aware of. Good luck!
