Video: September Vegetable Garden Tips
Here it is Sept. 7 and there’s so much going on in the garden these days! In this week’s video, I share lots of helpful vegetable garden tips.
They include when to harvest winter squash and pumpkins, and how to cure them prior to storage. If you haven’t heard of the “curing” term, here’s how it works. After harvesting squash or pumpkins, move them to a bright, warm location for 2 weeks. You might choose a sunny porch or inside a window that gets a lot of sunshine. That 2-week period will harden the skin so it will keep longer in storage. I learned this tip quite a few years ago and what a difference it makes!
I explain why I grow celery and what I do with it at the end of the season. And I’ve got a fun way to use your old cornstalks. You’ll also get to see me harvest the side shoots from my ‘Belstar’ broccoli plants. They have been amazing and it’s truly the best variety I’ve ever grown!
I bought those seeds from High Mowing Organic Seeds. Here’s a link, just in case you’re thinking growing some next year!
If you’d like to see my “report card” for how all of the veggies grew this year, here’s the link.
In the meantime, here’s my Vegetable Garden Tips video.
