My favorite aspect of gardening is that I’m always learning new things. Plant propagation is one of them. In this week’s video, I show you how to propagate lavender from cuttings.

Why propagate your own plants? Well, how does FREE sound? It’s a great way to stretch your gardening dollars, plus you can share plants with friends.

I actually wrote a garden column about our lavender project in July. So if you’d like some background on this, click here. It was pretty fun to learn how easy it is to propagate lavender.

As you’ll learn in both my column and video, I discovered how to take cuttings out of necessity. Our lavender plants are over 20 years old and have been looking pretty sad in recent years. We discovered that lavender plants typically only have a 20-year lifespan which means we need a game plan. And quick!

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it’s not all that hard to propagate lavender. We didn’t get 100% but the results were very good.

I also wanted to mention that I’m in the process of creating a new “Propagation” section on my website. Here’s a link to it. The section will be a work-in-progress for a while but it will include seed-starting, plant division and propagation.

OK, here’s the video:
