Video: August Vegetable Garden Tour

vegetable garden tour

I’ve been on vacation! Now that I’m back, I have shot a new video for you. I felt it was high time I took you on a vegetable garden tour. After all, we’re already past the halfway point of August, right?

In it, you’ll see how our tomatoes, butternut squash, pole beans, cabbage, broccoli and watermelons are doing. As always, I also share some helpful tips along the way.

The photo to the left is of one of my ‘Ali Baba’ watermelons. As you can see by the tape measure, it’s not exactly a whopper. To be honest, this was the first time I’ve grown watermelons in decades. Spokane isn’t exactly an ideal place to grow that crop so I’m excited that they’re off to a good start. I bought the seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, in case you’re curious.

Our broccoli crop is one of the highlights of this growing season. I’m growing ‘Belstar’ for the first time and am very impressed. The plants are producing the largest heads I’ve even seen I’m feeling pretty proud of them!

It has been so dry and hot here in Spokane, Wash., so a lot of crops are struggling. As a matter of fact, so is this gardener, sigh. It’s a frustrating situation but I’m doing my best to keep everything going. It’s that busy time of year, right?

I sure hope that your veggie garden is doing well. And I hope you’ll enjoy this vegetable garden tour video!
