Video: Seed Starting Demystified Pt. 7
I decided it was time to do another seed starting video because there’s so much to catch you up on!
This is the 7th and final installment in my 2023 series of videos on this topic. In it, I provide you with an update on how all of my seed starting projects are coming along. I also explain why, when and how to up-pot seedlings. After that, I discuss why you might be interested in pinching-back certain types of plants. And I cover the steps for hardening-off your seedlings before transplanting them out in the garden.
Up-potting means moving seedlings into slightly larger pots. Do this when you see a bunch of roots coming out the bottom of your pots. It’s the plant’s way of telling you it needs more room. After all, you don’t want the plants to be stressed. On the contrary, you want them to breeze through their seedling stage and grow wonderfully in your garden.
Then there’s the pinching-back method. This applies to certain types of seedlings and encourages bushier growth.
What’s hardening-off, you ask? That’s a process of gradually acclimating seedlings to the intensity of the sunlight. Here’s a link to a blog post I wrote about it.
If you’re curious, those are some of Bill’s pepper seedlings in the photo below. He is one heck of a great pepper-grower!
