This is a two-fer week because you get two videos rather than one! In today’s new video, I talk about how to grow peas and carrots.

For the pea segment, I’ll show you how to plant “gutter peas” (peas started in rain gutters) and how we support them. I have quite a few videos on gutter peas on my YouTube channel because it’s such a great method. You can see them all by doing this search.

In the carrot segment, I discuss soil preparation which is very important! You’ll learn which soil amendments to use and which ones to avoid. This is so important because it will have a bearing on how well your carrots grow. Then I plant carrot seeds, along with a row of parsnip seeds. You’ll learn about thinning carrots and parsnips because that’s how they’ll have room to form nice big roots.

And wait till you see the tip from Joe Lamp’l that I share. It involves placing a layer of burlap onto the surface of the bed and results in better seed germination. Thank you, Joe!

I think it is so fun and rewarding to grow peas and carrots. They’re easy to grow once you know the basics.
