Want to know how to grow broccoli? Well, my newest video tells you exactly what to do!

I started my broccoli plants indoors from seed on Feb. 27. I had hoped to transplant them out into the garden by April 15.Unfortunately, our weather was just too cold at that point. The good news is that the weather seemed stable enough one week later.

This year, I’m growing ‘Belstar’ broccoli for the first time. A friend and colleague of mine gave it rave reviews in 2022. That was all I needed to hear to I have high hopes for it this year. The seeds are really easy to find. Here’s just a sampling of sources: High Mowing Organic Seeds, Johnny’s Selected Seeds, Park Seed and Pinetree Seeds.

In this video, I explain how to plant the seeds. Since cabbage family crops are bug magnets, I cover that aspect of growing them as well. You’ll learn how to protect them from insect pests such as aphids, cabbage worms and slugs. Rather than using organic sprays (I will never use pesticides), I just need to use barriers to keep them away. To me, that truly seems like the easiest way to go.

I hope you’ll enjoy the video and pick up some tips. Cabbage family crops are wonderful to grow once you address the insect issue!
