Video: Seed Starting Demystified Pt. 4
This week’s video continues my discussion of seed starting. My goal has been to take the mystery out of seed starting by covering all aspects of it.
In this video, I give a quick update on my lettuce seedlings and discuss how often to water your seedlings. Then I talk about seeds that have special requirements in order to germinate.
For example, look at the photo to the left. Salpiglossis (Painted Tongue) seeds need to start in the dark, but you shouldn’t need to cover the seeds. How do you accomplish that? I either put the seed starting tray in a box as shown, or in a cupboard! The tricky part is remembering to check on them because as soon as they germinate, move them under a light.
I’ll also demonstrate how to use a soil blocker and start my broccoli seedlings in the blocks. And I explain the importance of hardening off your seedlings before transplanting them outdoors.
I hope this series of videos has been helpful to you. Let me know if you have any questions(Susan@SusansintheGarden.com). One of these days, I’ll get to start doing videos out in the garden! Right now, it’s covered with snow.
