Video: Seed Starting Demystified Pt. 3
Have you been enjoying my seed starting videos so far? I hope so! It’s time for part 3 because I have more more information to share with you.
Here’s what you’ll find in the 3rd installment:
- an update on the lettuce seedlings
- when to fertilize young plants
- why you would want to thin seedlings
- an update on the old bean seeds tested last week
- when to start different types of vegetable seeds
If you’re wondering why I keep showing you the lettuce plants, that’s because I want you to see their progression. It’s pretty amazing to watch a seed sprout, then watch a tiny seedling grow. Before you know it, they’re ready to go out into the garden.
It’s important to fertilize your seedlings at the right time. Newly-sprouted seeds have a bit of energy to get the plants going. But it only lasts for so long. Once seedlings have some true leaves (mature leaves), they need some “food” to grow. I typically use a liquid nitrogen fertilizer, such as Alaska Fish Fertilizer.
I hope these videos have been helpful to you. It’s my goal to help you all be successful at growing your own plants! And don’t worry, I will have more information about seed starting in the coming weeks.
