Video: How to Grow Leeks

Happy New Year! I thought I’d start off 2022 with an actual gardening video about how to grow leeks. I’ve been growing them for years but I get the impression not many folks have them in their gardens. I’m hoping this video will change that!

My favorite leek variety is ‘Bulgarian Giant’. I started growing them a couple of years ago and have been astounded by just how large the stalks are. The seeds came from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. This will be my third year of growing them and, more notably, I’m going to make some changes to how I will grow leeks this year. You will see the two big changes in the video.

Before we get to the video, I also wanted to point out some resources that you can find on my website. First, there is a vegetable planting guide that gives you general information such as the depth to plant the seeds, how far apart to space them, how long the seeds take to germinate, and the average days to maturity.

There are two seed-starting guides for planting veggies. The first is geared toward hardiness zones 5 and 6, and the second is for all hardiness zones. I thought I should mention all of these because seed-starting season is staring us in the face! (I just planted my leek seeds on Monday!)
