2021 Holiday Gift Guide for Gardeners

holiday gift guide

Ho ho ho! Are you a gardener? Do you have gardening friends and family members who would love a garden-related gift? Well, I’ve put together a holiday gift guide that is sure to please you all!

I’m frequently asked about the garden tools you see me using in my videos, as well as about garden book recommendations. Take a look below for some inspiration! I should also mention that you can click on any of the photos below to view a larger image.

Note: Each of the links below will take you to the item. If you notice an asterisk after the name of it, that means it’s an Amazon affiliate link. I will receive a small commission for the sale but this does not affect the price you pay in at all.

Tools and Products:

Bottletop Waterers*: If I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me about these, I would be rich! These are simple screw-on tops for empty soda pop bottles. I primarily use these to water my seedlings and they work like a dream. They work so much better than watering cans on delicate little seedlings or newly-planting seedling trays. You get 12 in a pack so that’s pretty much a lifetime supply! This would be a perfect stocking-stuffer for all of the gardeners in your life. Cost: $7.99

Hummingbird Button Feeder*: Bill and I love hummingbirds! You’ve probably seen photos of us using this little feeder so we can watch these amazing creatures up close while they feed. The birds are attracted to the bright red color of the lid, and the feeders are really easy to use. Just unscrew the lid, fill the bottom with hummingbird syrup, and sit outside somewhere comfy so you can watch the hummingbirds come in for a drink. These feeders are especially popular with young fledglings. Cost: $5.99

CobraHead Original Weeder and Cultivator*: If you’re looking for my #1 go-to hand tool, this is IT! The CobraHead Weeder is very comfortable in my hand and so versatile. I use it for weeding, transplanting, seeding, digging up potatoes… you name it. I’ve had mine for several years and it’s still like new, even though I use it so often. It is made in the USA and will very quickly become your (or your gift recipient’s) favorite tool. Cost: $29.95

Garden Hod Harvest Basket: This beauty comes from Gardener’s Supply. I love those guys because they are so environmentally conscious, they do so much for their community, and they stand behind everything they sell. I can’t emphasize enough how handy it is to have a harvest basket. You can pick some lovely veggies from your garden, hose them off right in the basket, and take them in to your kitchen. What’s even better is that this basket is currently on sale! Cost: $42.89 (regularly $49.95) Photo courtesy of Gardener’s Supply Company/gardeners.com

Deep Seat Garden Kneeler: This is my go-to tool for surviving a day of gardening! This kneeler/bench is also from Gardener’s Supply so you know it’s good quality, and it comes in awesome colors (mine is purple and everyone wants it!). Here’s how it works, just in case you haven’t seen me on it in my videos: when it’s in the kneeler position, you use your arms to lower yourself down onto it and to push yourself back up again. If you flip it over, it’s a garden seat that is ideal for doing tedious tasks (like picking blueberries or deadheading Shasta daisies — I swear that takes forever!), especially when you’re working in tight quarters. I cannot recommend this product highly enough! I’m certain it has saved my hips and thighs a lot of wear and tear. The Deep Seat Garden Kneeler is also on sale right now. Cost: $49.89 (regularly $59.95)

Book Corner:

The Vegetable Garden Pest Handbook* by ME! I am so proud of how my book turned out. It is exactly what I was hoping to create to help YOU figure out which types of bugs are in your garden and how to deal with the bad guys when they cause trouble. And, of course, how to recognize the good bugs and attract more of them to your garden. I have received so many wonderful comments and reviews of it. It’s still a best-seller on Amazon and continues to be given 5 stars by those who have already purchased it. Cost: $19.39

Now, the above link takes you to my book on Amazon. If you would a signed, personalized copy of my book, just drop me an email: Susan@SusansintheGarden.com. The cost is $26.99 and shipping is FREE during the month of December!

Growing Under Cover: Techniques for a More Productive, Weather-Resistant, Pest-Free Vegetable Garden* by Niki Jabbour. Niki is one of my gardening heroes. I have learned so much about vegetable gardening from her. She lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia and knows how to get the most productive garden under some very challenging conditions! This is her newest book and it is packed with useful information. There are so many things I want to implement in my own garden this year. I reviewed her book recently on this website. Cost: $18.29

The Lifelong Gardener by Toni Gattone: Garden with Ease and Joy at Any Age* by Toni Gattone. Many of you are familiar with the concept of adaptive gardening, right? Well, Toni has so much useful information and practical suggestions to help you garden as long as you want, while getting so much enjoyment from it. I know Toni personally and she is a delightful lady who understands how important gardening is to our physical and mental wellbeing. I have reviewed this book as well. Cost: $12.29

Plant Partners: Science-Based Companion Planting Strategies for the Vegetable Garden* by Jessica Walliser. You’ve likely heard about the concept of companion planting for ages. It turns out there really wasn’t any science behind it and it was very difficult to prove that certain plants get along with each other better than others because there are just so many variables involved. Well, Jessica looked into all the different aspects of companion planting and has shared all of the research and science behind this very thing. And yep, I reviewed this book, too (hint: I only review books that I think are excellent!) Cost: $17.30

Plant Parenting: Easy Ways to Make More Houseplants, Vegetables and Flowers* by Leslie Halleck. Plant propagation is a topic that I really don’t know enough about. And especially when it comes to houseplants. Sure, I can plant veggie and flower seeds till the cows come home, but knowing the types of cuttings to take from houseplants and what works best, was exactly what I needed to learn. Leslie’s book is so useful, I’ve already made more houseplants for FREE! And yes, I’ve reviewed this book! Cost: $17.58

Northwest Gardener’s Handbook* Your Complete Guide: Select, Plan, Plant, Maintain, Problem-Solve* (Oregon-Washington-Northern California-British Columbia) by Pat Munts and Susan Mulvihill. Pat and I collaborated on this book several years ago and it has been such an excellent guide for Northwest gardeners. Cost: $13.39

OK, that is my 2021 Holiday Gift Guide. I hope it gave you some inspiration. Have a wonderful holiday season!
