Video: Prune Raspberries
It’s time for my next video and this one was designed to help you prune raspberries with confidence!
In it, you’ll learn the difference between primocanes and floricanes. Even more importantly, the difference between summer-bearing and ever-bearing raspberries. Once you understand all of that, you should be able to prune any type of raspberry.
Every now and then, readers tell me how they’ve pruned ALL of the canes to the ground. But they don’t realize they just eliminated next year’s crop. I always hate to be the bearer of bad news. I really wanted to create this video so that wouldn’t happen to you!
You can prune raspberries and blackberries between now and very early spring. If you’re curious, those are ‘Fall Gold’ raspberries in the photo at the very top of this post. They are so yummy.
I pruned our two raspberry beds a couple of days ago. At that time, I realized I have some serious weeding to do in both of them. The spring and summer months were crazy-busy for me due to working on my new book, The Vegetable Garden Pest Handbook. That means weeding chores ended up being a luxury that I just didn’t have time for. Next year, I plan to do a much better job of keeping up.
You might be saying, “well, if your ground isn’t frozen yet, you could weed those NOW!” Well, yeah, but it is so chilly outside, that just isn’t fun weeding weather. I hope you’ll enjoy the video: (does the photo below make your mouth water? )
