Gardener Profile: Brianne Tucker
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I haven’t gotten to visit local gardens like I ordinarily would. Boy, do I miss meeting gardeners and seeing how they’re growing food or flowers and overcoming obstacles. However, I recently met Brianne Tucker and got to see her lovely garden so I wanted to share it with you.
Brianne and her family live in the Ponderosa area of Spokane Valley. One of their biggest challenges is deer. Ugh.
As she told me, “I started growing veggies in 2011 in some homemade raised beds. I used those for many years and then the deer started getting through my make shift fence. Two years ago, my husband built me that beautiful 8’ fenced-in garden.”
You can see by the photo below that it’s keeping her veggie garden safe! The Tuckers access their garden through a tall gate. She said they’re starting to have problems with rabbits now so her husband has been blocking access to their yard by adding chicken wire to the lower portion of their fencing.
I love the look of the planters she chose for her garden:
“We bought the galvanized planters from Amazon and all the fencing materials from Ziggy’s in Spokane Valley,” she said. “I have three 3′ x 9′ rectangular beds and two 4’ rounds, plus several smaller planters I added this year around the outside. One thing I really like about the galvanized beds, other than how they look, is that they keep the soil nice and toasty.”
Brianne Tucker is growing 6 varieties of different tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, zucchini, several varieties of hot peppers, beans, onions, kale, red cabbage, two varieties of carrots, sunflowers, and marigolds.
Thanks so much for sharing your garden with me and for letting me share it with your fellow gardening enthusiasts!
