Wreath Workshop Fun
Last Sunday, I attended a dried-flower wreath workshop and had the best time! It turned out to be the perfect activity for a gloomy winter afternoon.
A dear friend and Master Gardener colleague of mine, Cathi, invited several of us to join her for a tasty soup lunch and the wreath-making workshop. We all jumped at the chance to have an enjoyable visit with each other while doing something fun and creative.
Cathi made two pots of yummy soup and the ladies contributed a salad, rolls, hors d’oeuvres and an apple cake. And, of course, food is always an important component of a fun gathering, right?
Beth Mort, owner of Snapdragon Flower Farm, brought all of the materials we needed: wreath forms made from red-twig dogwood, pruners, florist’s wire, and so many wonderful flowers that she had grown and dried.
You wouldn’t believe how many different types of dried flowers there were: love-in-a-mist, salvia, gomphrena, straw flowers, statice, teasel, Chinese lanterns, money plant — you name it. Beth even brought some gorgeous moss.
Even though we all had the same materials available, you can see by the photos at the bottom of this post that each creation was very individual and beautiful.
Beth grows flowers to sell at local farmer’s markets and also offers “bouquet CSAs” in which you can have her create gorgeous (and I mean, gorgeous!) floral arrangements for you on a regular basis. In addition, she teaches workshops of dried flower wreaths like this one as well as her “From Field to Vase” cut flower workshop.
