How to Overwinter Geraniums

overwinter geraniums

Do you grow geraniums each year? What do you do with them at the end of the season? If you typically pitch the plants into your compost pile, I’ve got a better solution. Let me show you how to overwinter geraniums!

Up until a few years ago, I tossed my zonal geraniums at the end of the season. I always felt guilty about it, especially when I took a moment to think about how much each plant cost.

Three years ago, I decided it was high time I researched how to overwinter geraniums. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose. I also filmed a video on the process because I wanted to share that information with my readers. Would you believe that video has been viewed over 150,000 times?! Apparently I wasn’t the only one interested in learning how to do this.

Fast-forward to the present. Now that I have three years of overwintering my zonal geraniums, I figured it was time for a new video. Side note: at the time I filmed this video, the old video had been viewed 127,000 times. You can tell a lot more people have checked how to do it in the past few days!)

I hope you are intrigued and planning to overwinter your own geraniums. That is, if they haven’t been nipped by frost yet or pitched into the compost bin, that is!
