May 20 Column: Vertical Gardening
If you’re looking for a way to maximize the space in your vegetable and beds, vertical gardening is just what you’re looking for! That’s the topic of my column this week. Here’s a link to it in today’s edition of The Spokesman-Review: Expand your garden by growing up.
Many of you are probably familiar with my “famous” pole bean arbor, where I grow them over the pathway between two raised beds. I’ve been doing that for several years now and wish I had thought of it much sooner. I mean, it is just the coolest thing and so efficient!
But there are many more types of plants you can grow vertically, which you’ll learn about in my column.
This week’s “Everyone Can Grow a Garden” video is all about container gardening. What a treat it is to finally be safe to plan annuals in pots, right? I don’t have as many containers as some gardeners do, but I’ve got two large deck planters, a railing planter, two picket planters on my front porch, and two hanging baskets. And that’s plenty, right?
Take a look:
In the video, I mentioned how much I love self-watering containers. Since pots dry out easily, this type of container is a life-saver and ensures your plants grow beautifully. Gardener’s Supply has a large selection of these containers, in many sizes, so be sure to take a look at the options.
