How to Propagate Geraniums by Cuttings
Well, here we are in the dead of winter and I’m talking about how to propagate geraniums by taking cuttings. Why now? Well, the cuttings I took of my ivy geraniums last fall have been doing so well, I decided it was an important skill to share with you.
The take-home message from my latest video is simple: Don’t be afraid to try propagating your own plants!
I am not an expert on propagating plants but have learned a lot through trial and error. When it comes to geraniums, one of the first things I taught myself to do was how to overwinter them. Three years ago, I made a simple video about this and have been stunned to see how popular it’s been (over 117,000 views and counting).
But if you want even more plants, or you don’t want to overwinter the original plants, taking cuttings is an ideal — and simple — solution. Here’s my video:
During this year’s growing season, I intend to demonstrate other methods of plant propagation so be sure to stayed tuned. And remember, do your own propagation experiments and see how you do: even if it didn’t work the first time, you’ve still learned something!
