Food Preservation and Safety Classes
Well, it’s that time of year again. The awesome folks at Extension have scheduled all sorts of helpful food preservation classes. Some are free talks at local libraries and some are hands-on courses at Spokane County Extension.
Anna Kestell is the Food Preservation/Safety Education Coordinator and she has worked tirelessly to get the Food Preservation program up and running again after budget cuts at WSU a few years ago eliminated it.
Her classes are always very informative and provide just what you need to know so you can preserve the harvest you worked so hard to grow! Here’s the lineup:
July 10: Making Jams and Jellies. Shadle Library, 6-7 p.m. (free)
July 12: Pressure Canning Basics. Spokane County Extension, 5:30-7 p.m. ($12)
July 18: Garlic- and Herb-Infused Oils. South Hill Library, 6-7 p.m. (free)
July 22: Making Sauerkraut. Hillyard Library, 2-4 p.m. (free)
July 26: Dehydrating and Making Jerky. Spokane County Extension, 9 a.m. to noon. ($12)
Aug. 12: In a Pickle. Spokane County Extension, 9 a.m. to noon. ($12)
Aug. 19: Tomato: Sauce, Salsa, Sensational! Spokane County Extension, 9 a.m. to noon. ($12)
Aug. 22: Preserving Fruit. Eastside Library, 6-7 p.m. (free)
Aug. 26: Making Sauerkraut. Spokane County Extension, 9 a.m. to noon. ($12)
Sept. 12: Pickling. Fairfield County Library, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (free)
Oct. 10: Jerky-Making Basics. Fairfield County Library, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (free)
Nov. 14: Dehydrating Produce. Fairfield County Library, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (free)
