Planting lettuce
I’ve been busier than ever in the vegetable garden lately. That’s because there are plenty of cool-season crops to get into the ground. So far, I’ve got potatoes, onions and lettuce planted. In case you missed my latest video on planting lettuce, here it is. In it, I share several tips that I’ve learned over the years.
Lettuce is such an easy crop to grow. It does better during the spring and fall. Most lettuce plants don’t care for the heat of summer, so will bolt to seed.
This year, I’m growing four different lettuce cultivars: ‘Buttercrunch’, ‘Renee’s Baby Lettuce Blend’, ‘Red Romaine’ and ‘Red Sails.
It seems like our spring weather is going to be pretty warm so be sure to keep an eye on the moisture in your soil. Lettuce plants appreciate a little extra water.
I hope you found the video both interesting and useful. I would love to hear which varieties you’re growing this spring. Just drop me a note at
