A Note from Susan

March 12, 2026 _ Hi, everybody! This has been a crazy weather week here in Spokane, Wash. High winds, bitter temperatures, a bit of snow, some rain… you name it. But that’s typically what happens here as spring officially approaches. Fortunately, our flowering bulbs are starting to emerge and this beauty is a rock garden iris (Iris reticulata) called ‘Harmony’. Such a delight for the eyes!

What with all of our wild weather, I was beginning to worry that I wouldn’t be able to shoot a video but I braved the winds and it’s now ready. Whew! This new video is all about row covers, primarily for insect control on certain crops, but also how they can be used to protect plants from chilly temperatures. Here’s a direct link to it: Row covers for Insect Control in the Vegetable Garden.

Remember to visit the Grow Vegetables section that I created for my website. It is absolutely packed with useful information and tips. You can get to my guide by clicking on the link, or look for it in the menu bar on any page.

Be sure to check out my Amazon store for the gardening products I use and recommend so you’ll be ready for the new garden season. I receive a small commission but that won’t impact the price you pay.
